Drug and alcohol addiction ruined families. Most of the calls that I get is the expensive drug and alcohol abusers, not the abusers themselves. Parents, spouses and children of abusers suffer more. They are the ones calling for help.
As an aid to people, I work for, here's a study I did on rehabilitation programs, their costs and effectiveness.
First clarification of rehabilitation programs:
95% of rehabilitation centers follow a 12-step approach to medical rehabilitation; aka "you've got a disease, to accept that and we can help you reduce the problems"
5% USE alternative social, Educational, self-help, empowerment, psycho-socio-behavioral recovery methods
The success rate of the national media in the United States and Canada is about 22%. This is lower in my hometown (10%) according to our past Mayor
Why is it important? For those of you strong in math, you'll realize immediately that most rehabilitation programs or traditional rehabilitation, it is always a majority of patrons rehab relapsing back to abuse with 75% + returning to abusive practices. I think the term ' dry ' spin occurred due to this fact.
What about the remaining 5% of the methods of rehabilitation program?
I made a list of some of their success rates and costs. By the way, believe in focusing on what works and have made my career to find alternative programs (non-12 Step and non-medical) that actually end dependency.
If you're looking for results, then we're both on the same page.
4 rehabilitation programs or strategies that work
Use of emergency interventions and cage (see "Drug Addiction test you can do Right Now" Palatinus) reduced damages to individuals of 47% (6 months). These approaches of intervention are usually made by professionals, doctors and therapists
Motivational interviewing, a method of social and educational rehabilitation, is showing promise
Bio-physical combined with social or educational approaches change the style of life. These long-term success of 70% to 90%. Usually take an average of 1 to 6 months. Prices range from $ 6,000 to $ 18,000 per month
Alternative, result-oriented ' high-end ' rehabilitation centers. Costs are $ 40,000 + per month, gets the long-term recovery of 70-80%
So why aren't more people using these methods?
Centres or do a lot of money for the centers or therapists and not enough internally promote aka ' lobbyists '; the centres are available or to those of higher levels of income only. Being the new kids on the block, not often funded by health plans et al., both types are relatively unknown.
People in crisis don't often think rationally. I'm talking now families in crisis of drug or alcohol abusing their loved ones. States of shock may last longer than many suspect. Some are in a State of shock for years following a crisis.
The lesson to be learned here: realize that you're in a difficult time if you have a loved one abusing drugs/alcohol. This will be one day, but you can afford the cost of doing nothing, or the same thing and get similar results?
Drug rehab programs work if done correctly. Rehabilitation professionals, especially those impartial to the traditional methods of recovery, ' because that is how they recovered, can greatly improve your chances of having a happy conclusion to treatment.
