How to pass tests of the armed forces

Psychometric tests have been in use in the armed forces for many years. They are simply used as a tool to assess the candidate's ability to perform specific tasks that are similar to those that need to take a real-life scenario. If we break down the word ' psychometric ' we can see that ' psycho ' and ' mind ' means a metric measure.

The selection tests vary depending on whether you apply to join the army, the Royal Air Force or Royal Navy. Not surprisingly, the test for the Royal Air Force are the toughest, simply because many of the roles within the force are highly technical in nature.

ARMY-British Army recruit battery Test (BARB)

The test is a psychometric assessment BARB, based on the computer that has been developed by the defence evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) and University of Plymouth. Is a series of timed questions to assess the suitability of a candidate to absorb information quickly and logically. The computer automatically calculates the score of the applicant, on the basis of the number of correct answers and the time spent. The final score is referred to as the GTI (indice General offhand). The BARB has been in use since July 1992. The pass mark for the BARB is currently 26, although you will need to confirm this with your local careers Office of the armed forces. This means that you must get 26 questions correct, but as mentioned previously, don't settle for just a minimum step. It is necessary to achieve a high score as possible as this will give you more career options depending on your academic results.

RAF-proof of select Airman/Airwoman

Test selection Airman/Airwoman (AST) consists of a number of different aptitude tests that are designed to assess which careers in the field of RAF more suited to. There are many career opportunities available and each of them requires a different skill level.

The AST consists of seven timed multiple choice aptitude test as follows:

-A verbal reasoning test that evaluates how well you can interpret written information. During this test you will have 15 minutes to answer 20 questions

-A numerical reasoning test, which determines how accurately you can interpret numeric information, such as charts, graphs and tables. The test will also examine the possibility of using fractions, decimals and various formulas. There are two parts to this test. During the first trial will be only 4 minutes to answer 12 questions that are based on fractions, decimals and formulas. During the second test will take 11 minutes to answer 15 questions that relate to different tables and charts

-A test of job rate that is used to assess how quickly and accurately you can carry out routine tasks. During this test you have 4 minutes to answer 20 questions

-A spatial reasoning tests designed to test your ability to work with objects and different forms. During this test you will have only 4 minutes to answer 10 questions

-A test of mechanical understanding that is used to evaluate how it can work effectively with different mechanical concepts. During this test, especially when you have 10 minutes to answer 20 questions

-A test of electrical understanding that will evaluate your ability to work with several electrical concepts. During this test you have 11 minutes to complete the 21 questions

-A memory test that determines how accurately you can remember and retrieve information. There are two parts to this test and you will have a total of 10 minutes in which to answer 20 questions

Royal Navy-Royal Navy recruitment Test

The main purpose of the Royal Navy Recruiting test is to determine how effective you are to understand the issues, because you are good at English and mathematics, and if you can understand the basic concepts. Just as the BARB, they show the Royal Navy what type of jobs will be more suitable.

The Royal Navy Recruiting test covers the following four areas:

• A test of reasoning (30 questions to be completed in 9 minutes)

• A test of verbal ability (30 questions to be completed in 9 minutes)

• A test of numerical computation (30 questions to be completed in 16 minutes)

• Mechanical reasoning test (30 questions to be completed in 10 minutes)

The tests are usually performed at the careers Office of the armed forces and will be timed to strict conditions. Details of the time limits and number of questions per year will be provided in your recruitment literature. The passing mark for recruitment Tests will depend a lot on RN level of technical expertise required for the post that apply for; Although a passing mark of 50% is usually sufficient for most branches.

Regardless of whether the service apply to join, I think it's good practice to work through sample test for all three armed forces.
